In early 2007, when Marie Walton was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, an idea that had long been talked about amongst the family started to develop: a book full of Marie’s favourite recipes.
Marie’s Kitchen is the result! It holds over 300 recipes which Marie used throughout her lifetime. The recipes in Marie's Kitchen have a home-style country way about them and were often made to feed twenty hungry people at family dinners or to keep the biscuit tin full for starving grandchildren.
More than just a cookbook, Marie’s Kitchen contains helpful hints and tips that were drawn from her many years of experience and also tells a story of Marie’s deep love of food and sharing it with family and friends.
The book is beautifully illustrated using lino art prints made by her children and grandchildren.
In May 2011, with 3,000 cook books sold and $30,000 donated to MND research, the project closed.
The Walton Family thanks all individuals who supported this project through their purchase of Marie’s Kitchen Cook Book, particularly the Dalby community. Thanks also to the retail outlets who stocked the cook book, specifically the Dalby Coffee Club, Schreck’s Shoes Dalby, Carma Coffee Dalby, Hair @ Dalby and the Woolloongabba Antique Centre.
